What Has Actually Happened
The Directorate of Information, Publicity & Tourism (IP&T) issued a Press Note on 23 September 2026 stating that draft Recruitment Rules for amendment of 02 posts of News Reporter have been hoisted on the Administration website, inviting claims, objections or comments from stakeholders.
Anyone affected may submit claims or objections to the Director, IP&T, Sri Vijaya Puram within 30 days of publication. Nothing will be entertained after that window closes. The Press Note runs in The Daily Telegram for two consecutive days from 24 September 2026.

100% direct recruitment is the line that matters most here. No part of this post is filled by promotion or deputation, which means it will be open to the general public when advertised.
Qualification Proposed
Essential — all three:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised University with English or Hindi as the main subject
- One year Diploma in Journalism
- Flair for English and Hindi writing
Desirable: 2 years’ experience in reporting work in a newspaper or news agency.
The one-year Diploma in Journalism is the requirement that will exclude most applicants. If you are serious about this post, that is the qualification to start acquiring now — a degree alone will not be enough.
Age Limit Proposed

Note the five-year difference between male and female candidates — the draft sets the upper limit at 33 for men and 38 for women. Age is counted as on the closing date for receipt of applications.
What the Job Will Involve
The job description annexed to the rules is short: collection and filing of news stories from various sources, with photographs, to the Chief Editor or Editor of The Daily Telegram, plus any additional work assigned by superiors.
A mandatory induction training of at least two weeks must be completed before probation can be cleared.
How to Submit an Objection
Claims, objections or comments go to the Director, Information, Publicity & Tourism, A&N Administration, Sri Vijaya Puram, within 30 days of publication. This route is for stakeholders and persons likely to be affected by the rules — serving employees, associations, and people whose eligibility the draft would change.
It is not an application route. If you simply want the job, there is nothing to send — wait for the vacancy notification.
