General Instructions

  1. The clock is set at the server. The countdown timer at the top of the screen shows the time remaining. When it reaches zero the test ends by itself — you do not have to submit.
  2. The Question Palette shows the status of every question using these symbols:
    • You have not visited the question yet.
    • You have not answered the question.
    • You have answered the question.
    • You have NOT answered, but have marked it for review.
    • You have answered and also marked it for review.
Marking a question for review only means you want to look at it again. An answered question that is marked for review is still counted in the evaluation.
  3. To answer a question: choose one of the four options, then press Save & Next. To change an answer, select a different option and save again. To remove it, press Clear.
  4. Your answer is saved only when you press Save & Next or Mark for Review & Next. If you jump to another question from the palette without saving, the answer to the question you were on is not kept. This is how the real exam behaves.
  5. Sections appear on the bar above the question. You may move between sections at any time, and after the last question of a section you are taken to the first question of the next one.
  6. Only questions that are saved, or marked for review after answering, are evaluated.

    Let passed = 25x and failed = 4x. New failures = 4x - 2 and new total = 29x + 5, so new passers = 25x + 7. (25x + 7) / (4x - 2) = 22/3 gives 75x + 21 = 88x - 44, so x = 5. Total = 29 × 5 = 145.

Four equal sections, 200 questions in 120 minutes, Tablet Based Test, 0.25 negative marking. That works out at 36 seconds per question.

At higher secondary level the paper is not hard, it is fast. If you are getting questions right in practice but not finishing, you are preparing the wrong thing — work on speed, not on harder material.

A Note on Clerical Posts

Higher secondary level clerical recruitment usually carries a typing or skill test after the written stage, and candidates who clear the paper often fall at that hurdle. Practise on our free typing speed test alongside this paper — pasting is blocked there, so the score you see is the score you have.

English is a full quarter of this paper, so work through the English explanations carefully rather than skimming them.
