This is one of the largest banking recruitments of the year, it is open to candidates from every state including the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and online registration closes on 27 September 2026.
The single biggest opportunity here is Office Assistant (Multipurpose) — the clerical cadre — with 8,222 vacancies, for which a graduate in any discipline can apply. If you have finished your degree and are looking for a permanent bank job, this is the largest single door open to you this year.

The largest recruiters for Office Assistant are Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank (1,200), Andhra Pradesh Grameena Bank (900), Telangana Grameena Bank (750), Odisha Gramya Bank (600) and Gujarat Gramin Bank (510). For Officer Scale I the biggest are Gujarat Gramin Bank (600), Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank (425) and Andhra Pradesh Grameena Bank (400).

Two Things That Catch People Out
- The local language requirement. Regional Rural Banks require proficiency in the official language of the state you apply for, and it is specified state by state in the advertisement. This is one of the most common reasons candidates are rejected at a later stage, so read it before you choose your state.
- Vacancies are indicative. The figures above are from the Annexure-I published by IBPS and updated as on 9 September 2026. IBPS revises them during the process, so treat them as a guide and check the official advertisement for eligibility, age limit, fee and the examination pattern, which differ between Office Assistant and each Officer scale.
