The Divisional Forest Officer, South Andaman Division, has changed the mode of selection (Point No. 10) in the vacancy notice for Group ‘C’ (Industrial) Mazdoor and other Group ‘C’ non-ministerial posts (Raftman, Grader, Asst. Sawyer, Beltman, Oiler, Timber Recorder, Tallyman, Grinder). The original notice appeared in The Daily Telegram on 16 March 2026. The change follows an amended SOP approved by the competent authority.
Revised Mode of Selection
Selection is by a physical test in three levels. Candidates give an undertaking, in the format set by the District Nodal Officer, that they are physically fit and mentally sound to take the test. A candidate who fails any test does not get a second chance.
| Level | Test | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Level I | Running (qualifying) | Men 10 km, women 8 km, within 60 minutes |
| Level II | Long jump (qualifying) | Cleared within 3 attempts. Men: General and OBC 12 feet, ST 9 feet. Women: General and OBC 9 feet, ST 7 feet |
| Level III | Weight carrying (for final selection) | Men carry 30 kg for 500 metres. Women carry 20 kg for 400 metres |
How the Merit List Is Made
- A time limit is fixed after the weight-carrying test so that the notified number of vacancies plus 10% of candidates cover the distance within it. The merit list is prepared on that basis.
- The merit list covers the exact number of notified vacancies, with a waiting list of at most 10% of the vacancies.
- ST, OBC and EWS candidates who are selected on their own merit without relaxed standards are counted against general (unreserved) vacancies, not the reserved share.
- Reserved vacancies are filled separately from eligible ST, OBC and EWS candidates who are domiciled in the A&N Islands, as per existing guidelines.
